Copyright & Ownership — Sboogie

Last updated: 20 August 2026

This page explains what's original to Sboogie, what isn't owned by anyone, and where any outside inspiration came from. Short version: the game itself is traditional and belongs to no one; the specific app — its name, code, and every piece of art — is original and © 2026 Francesco Sacchi.

The game itself is not ours to own

Sboogie is a digital version of President / Scum, a traditional trick-shedding card game passed down informally for generations, with a bluffing mechanic layered on top. Nobody owns the rules of President — they're public domain, the same as any traditional card game like Hearts or Rummy. What's original here is one specific implementation of those rules: this app's code, its particular house rules (the tribute exchange, the flag/bluffing mechanic), its interface, and its name.

Original artwork

Every card, icon, and illustration in Sboogie — the jester hat, the President's shield, every cosmetic set — is drawn in code from scratch. Nothing is a photograph, a stock asset, or someone else's illustration.

The app icon's style — thick ink outlines, flat cel-shading, chunky proportions — was inspired by independent fan-art conventions common in that illustration style. No existing artwork, character, or specific design was copied or traced; the bull's pose was informed by reference photography for anatomy only, the same way any illustrator sketches from a photo before drawing in their own hand. The finished icon is original work.
